Letter Of Fr. Bienvenido Nebres, S.J. to wawam.wordpress blog and readers

Thank you very much for informing me of the website (wawam.wordpress.com) with the outpouring of support and concern for Amiel and for the deep concern that we make the Ateneo truly safe for all our pupils. I will be going through the website in the coming days.

As you might know, I was with Mrs. Melanie Alcantara and Avie at the hospital right after the tragic accident and have been with them and with relatives,
parents, friends and members of the Ateneo community through the wake and the funeral.

I have seen the outpouring of concern and support very personally and am deeply grateful to our parents and the whole community.

We will have a ninth day mass at the Ateneo Grade School Chapel Thursday evening.

Fr. Ben Nebres, S.J.

P.S. We have sent a separate email on measures to improve safety for all our children.

Fr Ben, we truly appreciate your heartfelt support. However this incident- this tragedy is a wake up call for a time to take drastic measures to ensure the safety of our children. Amiel’s death was an accident waiting to happen- with children weaving in and out of cars, there is just one answer to this, and that is to remove, or minimize the possible contacts that may occur between cars and our children.

The Filipino’s trait of ningas cogon will allow only one, two weeks for security to be vigilant. It is only a temporary answer to an issue that has not been addressed for years.

Please listen to our petition to open up spaces or areas in Ateneo to move these vehicles away from our children. As we continue to pray for your wisdom and guidance, we know that you have the courage to effect change for the better. Only then would we be at peace knowing that Amiel’s sacrifice has been offered for the safetly and well being of the generations of students who will benefit from your concrete, strong and decisive actions.

God bless you with strength, unselfishness, courage and wisdom especially during these trying times.
