delamar pregnant – the morning rush radio show no longer wholesome?

click to read:

delamar of rx93.1 gives birth to a baby boy, name is Cooper

delamar is not like us. when something happens to us, something as big as getting pregnant, it gets known to just friends and relatives. for someone like delamar, not only does it get known to friends and relatives, it also gets known among her listeners of her radio program with chico. that can count to as many as hundreds of thousands of people, or even a few million that stretches across mega manila, many parts of luzon and other countries that can listen in to their very popular morning radio show through the internet.

click below to read:

is a certain tyler ashby the father of delamar’s baby?

delamar and chico announced on air today that delamar is 9 weeks pregnant. they even made a big deal of it by hyping it up since yesterday and at the start of today’s show. the audience bit and the internet is a buzz with the news.

chico and delamar’s morning radio show The Morning Rush is the top rating FM radio prgram in mega-manila. that means they get the most number of radio listeners during their time slot of 6am to 10am.

the show has a wide following from  adults, teens, to kids and families many of them in their cars as they commute from their homes to school or work. chico and delamar know their audience well. in fact, you will often hear them refrain from talking about mature topics or even using mature words on sex in deference to their audience of children and teens listening in to their show.

we often hear greets for children who are in grade school and high school coming from parents or classmates. at times we hear a whole section of kids in a grade school or high school being greeted for many reasons – a school fair, a field trip or exams. the point is this show at the early hours or first half of the show do get children as listeners.

if they have to talk about sex or refer to something sexual, they usually use code words or words that rhyme with the actual word. there seem to be an unwritten rule that sex is a prohibited topic from 6am to 8am when kids are most likely still listening to them. they can get raunchier from 8am till the end of their show at 10am as the kids most likely are already in school and no longer listen to them.

not only do they avoid mature topics or the use of mature words on sex when kids are still listening to them because kids can hear them, but they are aware that it will also put the parents on the spot as the kids hearing the words said on radio will most likely lead to the kids asking their parents what these sex words mean. for example, the parents just might not be ready to explain to their young children what sexual orgasm is and how it is achieved. they often joke about these situations where parents are asked sex questions by their young children.

this was something we admired about the show.  The Morning Rush with chico and delamar know their audience and respect them. there is another talk show on another popular radio station that we used to listen to and we thought many of the topics discussed  in that show are inappropriate for teen-agers and kids. aside from the off-colored topics on sex, one of the  male hosts in that other radio show often gets too aggressive and impolite for his own good. chico and delamar we thought was just wholesomely funny most of the time with very little danger of going overboard and being inappropriate for minors.

with delamar’s pregnancy, some of the things that parents found agreeable for their young children to listen to may need to be re-assessed not just by the parents but by delamar and chico themselves.

delamar is a single woman. she is unmarried and is now having a child. that signals pre-marital sex. that also says she is going to be a single mother and will have a child outside of marriage. for now, it appears she will need to raise her child as a single mom and without the dad.

that also signals an irresponsible male partner who fathered a child with a woman but did not take the responsibility of taking care of  his child and marrying the woman.

we are in a society where we still look at marriage as a pre-requisite for having children.

what we see here are pictures of a woman and a man that most parents will not want their children to grow up to be.  in fact those are models that parents probably fear the most that their children will fall into and will do anything to prevent it from happening. parents want their children to have the right values of a good education, good career and children after marriage. a single mom for their daughters is a worst fear of most pinoy parents. and a son who fathers a child who walks away from it is not something they want their sons to be.

delamar’s pregnancy for sure will be a hot topic in the coming weeks. in fact it can potentially be a hot topic in the show for the next 7 months. that is a lot of children hearing the topic and a lot of explanation for a long time that needs to be done by parents to their young children.

we think chico and delamar will need to think the whole thing through very carefully and very thoroughly. they may have not realized it but they have crossed a line. putting it in simple terms – they have crossed the line of a GP rating to a potentially R rating  kind of show.

pregnancy  for a single mom is hardly a topic grade school students can fully understand. it will be a topic that high school students will understand but it is something that parents will not want them to think as the right behavior and the ideal model.

during the show, how much of it can they find humor in? in fact is any of it humorous at all? isn’t single motherhood and pregnancy without marriage very serious topics that should not be joked about for kids?

there are many more questions that chico and delamar need to answer. these are just a few of them.

I so agree with your post. I have been a listener since ’95, and their influence on the young generation is really significant. Yes, we don’t have the right to intervene in their private lives, but i so agree with everything that you said. If the guy is responsible enough, let him come out and recognize the child. I so agree that this is a serious matter to be dealt with. For those of us who do not agree, just think, what if this happens to your OWN child, how would you feel?

  2. March 13, 2011 at 10:19 am

parents with young children will need to rethink if chico and delamar’s the morning rush is an appropriate radio show for their children to listen to given delamar’s out od wedlock pregnancy.

    are you serious?

i really don’t listen to the show but every time i get to listen, chico and del are laughing about something that chico said that can be given a double meaning. mygad! they are like not wholesome at all!

“they have crossed the line of a GP rating to a potentially R rating kind of show”

just because delamar announced she was pregnant and she was a single lady? so every time a mother who had her child out of wedlock tells her kid that she was single when she got pregnant with the kid, R-rating na usapan nila? okay ka lang?

“If the guy is responsible enough, let him come out and recognize the child”

maybe . . Just don’t know who he is because they said nothing of him on the show. To be responsible it has to be said on the radio? We dont know nothing of him. It could be he disappeared or it could be they are living in together.

even for me as a Christian I know its not my place to judge, but we all do anyway. anyone have their own morals and judge through through their own eyes, but we don’t know either way what the story is. how can we judge without the story . . . it doesn’t make sense to judge without facts. Maybe we’ll never know.

“what if this happens to your OWN child”? What happened? alls we know is she is pregnant. For my child, that is blessing.

it is not a question of how the child is being looked at, it is a question of being an unwed mother. most pinoy parents will not want their daughters to be an unwed mother. and that is the question parents will be asked by their young children,. again, let me point out – the morning rush has a young audience as well. they do have listeners who are in grade school, high school and college – all minors.

to minors like those who still go to grade school, high school and college, yes the topic is R-rated. topics of unwed pregnancy, pre-marital sex and single motherhood are not openly discussed with minors, specially grade schoolers and high schoolers.

      March 16, 2011 at 9:47 pm

i’m sorry i gave such an extreme example. and it’s going to a totally different topic. if you believe that unwed pregnancy, pre-marital sex and single motherhood are not openly discussed with minors, then that’s your view.

my point here is that if parents are concerned about chico and delamar’s R-rated-ness because of the pregnancy announcement, then they should at least 1) have a discussion with their children — better they get the explanation from the parents; 2) at the very least, don’t listen to RX on the way to driving their kids to school; and 3) trust and faith in their parenting skills, and in their children.

i just feel bad that you would feel this way: “parents with young children will need to rethink if chico and delamar’s the morning rush is an appropriate radio show for their children to listen to given delamar’s out od wedlock pregnancy.” why? what does her being pregnant have to do with their show? what if she didn’t announce it on air, and continued on with the show without the audience knowing that she was pregnant?

as i’ve said before, on its own already, the morning rush is pretty heavy on the double meanings; honestly, chico has a very dirty mind imho (no offense chico!). i would really think twice calling them wholesome. i actually change the station whenever chico and del laugh over something so normal and innocent just because it has sexual double meanings.

from what i have heard, it appears chico and delamar are not mentioning the pregnancy on air in the past two days. it sounds pretty strange considering the big deal they made out of it last week. i guess they are not mentioning it on air to avoid controversy.

yes, the above is something the parents can do. for parents to do such things proves my point – the chico and delamar’s radio has crossed over to having an R rating because of the pregnancy announcement. parents will otherwisenot do any of the above if the pregnancy was not announced or if delamar did not get pregnant.

the topics you listed are not being discussedwuth grade schoolers and high schoolers for sure. they are too young to understand what these things are. those arte being discussed with college students by parents to warn them NOT to commit the mistake of being an unwed mother, single parenthood and pre-marital sex.

    not really a rusher :

    not really a rusher :
why? what does her being pregnant have to do with their show? what if she didn’t announce it on air, and continued on with the show without the audience knowing that she was pregnant?

well, delamar was the one who decided to announce her pregnancy on live radio. it was delamar who included her pregnancy in the show.

delamar probably figured she had no choice but to announce it on the show. being 9 months pregnant will show her belly getting bigger. it will be obvious fro everyone who sees her that she is pregnant. being a very popular radio jock, being seen by people is unavoidable. it would have been a bigger controversy and in fact acandal if she did not announce it on air and people started talking about it.

they are wholesome because they make an effort to put in codes the sex words in deference to their very young audience. you understand the double meanings because you are an adult, kids like grade schoolers will NOT get the double meaning.

If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. If the parents think it’s not good, then they refrain from listening. end of story. They have millions of listeners as you have said. Losing one like you or a few others who think it’s an offending show, won’t actually matter. You did not have to make this such a BIG DEAL.

this entry is very discriminating against single women who, fortunately or unfortunately, got pregnant. if you’ve been hiding under a rock, clearly you will have this judgement. parents would know better. they could have turned the dial to other radio stations earlier on since the morning rush have leaned from wholesome towards the naughty side, but no –they did not. kids won’t go and get pregnant because delle did. this is where responsible parenting enters the picture.

chico and del announced the pregnancy not to “hype” the show up (like what you have put it). many listeners have been following the show for almost 15 years now, it is like breaking the news to the family.

if you have reservations about dj’s coming out clean, go listen to Mo.

one of the points of the post is in fact to point out the role of what responsible parenting ought to do given the “great reveal” will need to play. it also points out that with the revelation, parents will now need to talk their minor children about why single parenthood, pregnancy before marriage is good or bad. and why that is consistent or not consistent with the values he parents and the family believe in.

this is really a question of values – whether parents and families believe in allowing or sanctioning pregnancy out of wedlock and single parenthood. it is not discrimination against single women who get pregnant. ask any single woman who gets pregnant and these difficulties and issues are in fact things that every single mother has faced.

delamar and cgico i am sure were aware of this happening and these issues being in the forefront.

chico and del announced the pregnancy not to “hype” the show up (like what you have put it). many listeners have been following the show for almost 15 years now, it is like breaking the news to the family.

no question about it – they did hype it. they even had a day or two of teasers before the announcement. they had a title for the event – “the big reveal” annd it was featured in chico’s blog. all that is hype. that means they did use this personal information of delamar as a tool to hype ratings for the radio show.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions based from their personal or religious beliefs. If you choose to judge people based on your own beliefs then that is your choice to make, however it is wrong to spread rumors without any foundation, even in the form of a question.

Example: “Is Sandra sensitive to unwed mothers because her husband cheated on her and got another women pregnant out of wedlock?” That’s is crazy and has no basis and is irresponsible to even ask that. Like its content or not, WAWAM is attempting to be a blog where information can be shared and discussed. Share your opinions, but have the common courtesy to keep information and guesses factual.

This is what is wrong about our society. We should be start being open to TALKING about sex. Just because us parents do not talk about it with our children doesn’t mean the children don’t find out on their own about. We should start realizing that talking about sex is something WE as parents have to face talking about. Why are we so scared of talking about it?? If we have properly talked about what to us is good values, then we wouldn’t be worried about our kids not able to think for their own good. Censoring something does not work with kids.

And now with regards to the show, what Delamar did and the outcome may be undesirable for most people. It appears Delamar has different values with some listeners. Well, if you were brought up properly and you brought up your children properly, again, having TALKED about serious issues already, even at a young age, then you people wouldn’t be so worried every time someone got pregnant and fear your child is next. It’s all about equipping your child with the right values and trusting them.

i have been listening to their show for years. delamar seem to be very knowledgeable of the bible and as far as i can tell sounds religious. where does getting pregnant while single and being a single mom fit into her being religious?

I am a father of three girls. One is a teenager turning 17 soon. The next one is 10 years old. Both of them study in a catholic school. The youngest is still 3 years old.

We’ve been listening to Chico and Delamar since…2002? on our way to their school.

If any of my daughters will be pregnant out of wedlock, the last thing I want her to do is to make another mistake – get married because of pregnancy. I might even stop her if she will.

Is it a mistake to bear a child outside marriage – not if it was intended that way.

Is sex outside marriage right? It depends on your values.

Is sex with a married man wrong? YES!

Was it wrong for her to announce she is pregnant? Is there a way out of it being a celebrity?

Should we keep our children listening to them? If your children’s set of values can only be defined by listening to radio programs, watching a TV program, or has limited access to other role models, then yes, you should stop your children from listening to them.

If our children’s values can be influenced by listening to a radio show, then there is a problem in the way we rear our children.

My 10 year old daughter’s reaction when she found out that Delamar is pregnant without a father: “Ay, that will be difficult for her. Uy, Top 10 names for Del’s baby!”

I told her about it the night of the big reveal.

“Celebrity-worship and hero-worship should not be confused. Yet we confuse them every day, and by doing so we come dangerously close to depriving ourselves of all real models.” – Daniel J. Boorstin

    • March 25, 2011 at 11:59 am

whether you like it or not values are formed and influenced by many things, one of them is the media they listen to and watch. we hope and aspire that parents will have the most influence on children but the fact is others are also influencers.

the value being put into the foreground here is this – is it right to be an unwed mother and is it right to be a single mom.

What is this, the Dark Ages? Women are empowered to make their own choices now.

See, this is part of the reason our country isn’t making the necessary progress. People ignore the basic morality of knowing how to survive in the real world and tend to generalize according to the superficial rules of one religion (and yes, I disagree the Philippines is a Catholic country. What about the Muslims and other tribes that are supposed to make up our people, too? But I digress).

Doesn’t it make sense to instead instill in young people the importance of education and providing for themselves and their future offsprin rather than stress on marriage then bahala na if unborn kids don’t get enough to eat? Chico and Del have talked about this plenty through the years, and yes, I believe they lived by this creed.

Focus on stressing responsible parenthood and providing sufficient support for the kids rather than “Geez, the parents must get married, or the future is doomed!” The Philippine society must set its priorities straight.

Delamar has been earning her own paycheck since what, late 80s? Early 90s? She’s past 30. She’s not some teenage airhead whose idea of a disaster is Justin Bieber’s new haircut. Whether she’s made a decision with her partner or just decided to get pregnant (ever occurred to anyone there’s in vitro fertilization, too) to experience motherhood is her personal right and her own business. Congratulations to her, it is good news indeed.

    • April 2, 2011 at 2:29 pm

It is not a question of whether women are empowered to make their own decisions, it is a question of values and value formation. Having a child out of marriage and being a single mother is not one of the values we believe in.

I still love listening to them, for me they still have class, and find their show very funny and entertaining, they don’t resort to thrash talk and resort to becoming “controversial” for the sake of ratings unlike the other show on the same timeslot.

Take easy on the judgment, people, maybe JUST maybe, she doesn’t want to get married; or she doesn’t want to marry for the wrong reasons… perhaps someone in your family too is having sex outside marriage. (gasp!)

  23. July 20, 2011 at 12:42 pm

All women for sure would want to do it the old fashioned way… Meet a great guy, fall in love, get married then have kids I for sure knows that this is also what Delamar wants. BUT in reality this doesn’t always happen and it’s not always possible.

Don’t judge her for her current situation. No one is perfect and what she needs now is love and understanding. She is a good person and being an unwed mother doesn’t define her whole life. She doesn’t owe anyone any explanation as it is HER LIFE. She shared the news people she considered FAMILY who also shared (in a way) their lives in theirs.

It is definitely not right to be a single mom but what can you do if you are single and about to be a mother? STRIVE TO BE A GOOD MOM no matter what your freaking civil status is. NOt all women is capable of being a mother so treasure the gift and strive to be good at it.

Before everything else, let me introduce myself. I am a former rusher, an agnostic, married and a father of 1.

so I just read this, and I guess I am 6 months late.

All I can say is, are you totally serious? Are you a 70 year old or something? I remember of having sex education at 2nd grade. By this time children already tend to find out for themselves what sex and what the world is all about.

Now if you’re a late bloomer you’d probably find out in the 6th grade or in highschool most definitely.

And yes, I agree that most parents do not discuss this with their children which is the parents’ fault because they think its not proper.

But what is not proper about it? It is the real world, now if you think you can just force your children to watch that gay purple dinosaur or that curious little girl explorer until they are 12, come on… you have got to be kidding me.

Single motherhood is not a sin. What could have been a sin is if she’s had an abortion. Instead of casting the first stone, we should admire Del for her courage of facing her pregnancy.

And I dont get this tying up with your religious beliefs, what is wrong with modern day Christianity or Catholicism at that is that it has lost its true meaning. If anyone was even fortunate enough to at least have read the Bible before of the many “rewrites” and editing the so-called pillars of faith has done then you would be more open minded about everything else.

Hello, you are not the only religion in the world therefore you cannot impose your morals, let alone your beliefs to everyone else.

Basic values or morals is perfectly worded by Jesus the Christ himself. So let me quote the Bible for you:

    Matthew 22:37-39

    New International Version

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Do you actually know why he only gave out 2? Because this covers all of your so-called values and morals.

Some posts here questions Del’s beliefs and faith and why she’s having this out of wedlock…really?!? Are you f-ing serious?!? You should question her morality and faith is she had not gone through with it and became responsible of taking a life.

I must say this blog post is just irresponsible and naive for lack of a better word.

I so agree. we don’t really know delamar’s story with the baby’s father so please let us refrain judgement.

with the out of wedlock pregnancy, single motherhood, absentee father, pre-marital sex, etc. these are the topics that PARENTS SHOULD DISCUSS WITH THEIR CHILDREN because THESE THINGS HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE.

Avoiding this topic would widen the blind spot of kids making them more prone. Please, LET US START EDUCATING OUR KIDS AND EMPOWERING THEM WITH THEIR RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

    i disagree with this article.

a single mom not fit a topic for gradeschoolers?

how many kids in gradeschools do you think are raised by single parents?

the authors does a disservice to single parents, and only adds to their negative stereotyping.

while obviously there are situations like that, it is not the ideal nor is that situation the aspiration of many and even those who are already there. these single moms will admit the situation they are in is a mistake but they have to make do with it.

are there parents who tell their children this – “daughter, have a child out of wedlock and be a single mom. that is your aspiration and goal.”?

the truth is the aspiration and dream of everyone is to have a happy marriage and the family intact for the rest of their lives.
