Maria y Corazon
By Dan Rivero
A poem dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Birthday and to the 40th day of Cory’s passing on September 8

Christ’s only mother, is how we call her;
She gave birth to Jesus, our only Savior.
Upon her “Yes” to the Messenger;
God has sent us a Deliverer.

Today we celebrate her birthday;
To her we give thanks, honor,love and pray;
For being a mother to Christ and all who pay–
Respect and gratitude your children here say.

There’s another woman who’s so dear us;
Very close, her name means “Heart”
Devout, pious, faithful and true
To Jesus and Mary she only pursued.

She restored democracy to our land;
And freedom to our shackled hand;
Moral governance became her legacy;
From Ninoy to Pinoys, dying became worthy.

Very timely on Cory’s 40th day of death;
Mary’s birthday today we never forget;
Truly the Lady in Blue welcomes the lady in Yellow;
Like a blue sky radiated with the sun’s glow.

Two women with one common vision–
Prayer and peace has been their mission;
Both depend on God, our loving Father;
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Brother.

Sa Wikang Pranses, ito ay “Ang Bilog”
Mamahaling restorant, pagkai’y nakakabusog;
Matatagpuan sa siyudad ng Nueba York;
Mga mayayaman at sosyal ito ay dinudumog.

Isang araw ang Pangulo ay dumayo;
Sa Estados Unidos, bayan ng mga Amerikano;
Kasama ang piling opisyal ng ating gubyerno;

Isang milyong piso ang nagastos sa hain;
Mga pagkaing masasarap, pati mga inumin;
Libre ng isang Kongesman para daw gunitain;
Anibersaryo ng Unang mag-asawa, pag-ibig na taimtim.

Subali’t bakit naging isyu ang pagsasalu-salo?
Sinasabing ito’y maluho at napakagarbo;
Para sa mga lider, pulitiko’t pinuno;
Ng bayang naghihirap at nagsasakripisyo.

May nagsasabi na maliit lamang ang ginasta;
Dahil ito ay angkop sa Pangulong bumibisita;

Wala namang masama kung kumain ng magarbo;
Kung ang salapi ay galing sa sariling sweldo;
Ibang usapin na kung ang opisyal ng gobyerno;

Huwag sanang masamain itong aking tulain;
Nilalahad ko lang tunay kong damdamin;
Hangga’t ang karamiha’y gutom at walang maihain;
Kahit sa payak, masustansya at disenteng pagkain.

Nawa’y huwag na sana tayong muling pauuto;
Na bilugin muli ang utak nating lito;
Sa kasinungalingan ng ilan sa mga namumuno;
Magising na nawa tayo at magpakatotoo.

Darna

DARNA
Prof. Dan Rivero
This poem is written for tomorrow’s occasion of National Heroes Day (Aug. 31)

A fictitious heroine, Darna is her name;
Prowess, strength and grace made her to fame;
From comics to film and now in the tube;
Many follow her, even on YouTube.

Her villains now are ferocious as ever;
Of a snake, vampire or whatever monster.
A girl swallows a stone and shout’s aloud
The heroine’s name, Behold! Has come about.

But there are real evils and villains in this nation;
And not only those which are told in fiction;
Greed, corruption, indifference and apathy
From the government down to the citizenry.

Are heroes and heroines only tales to tell;
In this world of life that seem going to hell.
Who will rescue us from this slumber and fall;
To raise us up and make us proud and tall.

Why do we still look for a hero or heroine who flies;
Or found in books and on monuments of people died.
Heroism is in each of us, if only we open our eyes.
And work hard together to change our life.

A nation without heroes is truly such a pity;
But still searching for one is a shame of a country;
I hope and pray that all will stand and move;
To change ourselves and the country for the good.

Monumento ni Cory ipinag-utos ni Gloria

August 21, 2009 1 comment

Demokrasya

Demokrasya
Prof. Dan Rivero

Ang bayang naging tulog, bibig naging kimi;
Ay namula’t, nagising at nagsalitang muli;
Sa paglisan ng isang taong minsa’y tumindig;
Laban sa rehimeng sa baya’y nagpatahimik;
Mga karapatang sagrado matagal na siniil.

Kanyang asawa pinatay na walang laban;
Bitbit lamang ang hangad para sa kalayaan;
Para sa sambayanang uhaw sa kapayapaan;
Tungo sa tunay na kaunlaran nitong ating bayan;
Sa ilalim ng katotohanan, pag-ibig at katarungan.

Subali’t hindi naduwag itong abang biyuda;
Sa halip ay tumayo at humarap sa masa;
Baya’y nagkaisa’t tumalima sa panawagan nya
Na labanan ang pagkamakasarili at pagpapasasa;
Ng isang diktador, pamilya nya’t oligarkiya.

Kalayaa’y natamo dalawang dekada ng lumipas;
Nang ang diktador at alipores niya’y umalpas;
Taumbaya’y nagsimula sa isang panibagong bukas
Sa gabay ng lider na namuno sa pag-aaklas;
Ang demokrasya’y nakamtan muli sa wakas.

Nguni’t sa paglipas ng taon, tila may nagbago;
Ang kalayaan at demokrasya na ating natamo—
Ay nabale-wala at ngayo’y inaabuso;
Ng mismong mamamayan lalo na sa liderato;
Masasayang na lang ba ang ipinaglaban dito?

Para bagang isang bulkan ang bayan kong sinilangan;
Madalas ang hidwaan, paminsa’y nagpuputukan;
Mga lider ng pamahalaan gayun din ang mamamayan;
Kailan ba matatapos yari itong kaguluhan;

Kaawa-awa naman ang mga maralita’t dukha;

Tayo ng kumilos, baguhin ang pananaw;
Ating tahakin ang landas, gabay ng bagong araw;
May pag-asa pa ang bayan, liwanag ay tanaw;
Itaguyod, ipaglaban kalayaang ating sigaw;
Demokrasya ng bayan huwag muling pumanaw.

Reasons why Willie Revillame must be banned from Television

Willie Revillame – Which is worth of respect? Which is rude?

August 9, 2009 16 comments

The controversy of the Willie Revillame’s brushing away of the funeral coverage to gave way to his Wowowee irritates the mourning public.

Inspite of the irritation, and disgust over Mr. Revillame, thousands stood at their lines to see Pres. Cory’s remains from La Salle Greenhills to the Manila Cathedral.

Four Filipino Men, our own F-4 stood valiantly and with pride without motion beside the remains of Cory.

The truck driver, Mr. Jerry Orbiso, who drove the casket last Monday’s transfer from La Salle Greenhills to the Manila Cathedral and Wednesday’s funeral procession, those 9 or more so hours is commendable. In the Sunday issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Orbiso said:

“I will never forget those two days when I had the privilege to serve the most loved woman in the Philippines,” said Orbiso, a professional truck driver for the last 30 years.

Orbiso said that apart from the P400 he received as his daily wage, there were no extras.

But that doesn’t bother him.

“No amount of money can ever pay for the once-in-a-lifetime chance I had,” he said. “I’m sure many people envy me now.”

Now, think about this: sa WOWOWEE pumipila ang tao kay WILLIE REVILLAME (at sasabihan pa sya ng ‘ang pogi mo Pap!) dahil sa PERA. Last week, pumipila ang tao,uminit man at bumuhos ang malakas na ulan dahil kay CORY, kahit walang kapalit na pera o pagkain. Alin ngayon ang kabastos-bastos at karespe-respeto sa dalawa?

Letter of Complaint to ABS-CBN Against Mr. Willie Revillame

August 8, 2009 58 comments

I sent this letter through ABS-CBN interactive (abs-cbn.com) about another issue against Mr. Willie Revillame

*********

MS. CHARO SANTOS- CONCIO
President, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network
Mother Ignacia St. Quezon City

Dear Ma’am Santos-Concio

We witnessed how Mr. Willie Revillame disregarded the public by airing his Wowowee show while the funeral of Cory was transferred from De La Salle Greenhills to Manila Cathedral last Monday. It was a shame. While the country wants to witness the history unfolding upon the death of Pres. Cory Aquino, Mr. Revillame was only pre-occupied with his work, which we all know earns a multi-millon peso per day of show.

With due respect, Ma’am Charo Santos Concio and Sir Gabby Lopez, you owe the coming back of ABS-CBN to no less than Pres. Cory Aquino when she gave it back to the Lopez family after the EDSA 1986 Revolution.

I think Mr. Revillame should know this. Yet inspite of giving apologies to the Aquino family and to the Filipino people, he sounded with arrogance and conceit.

We urge you, that you should remove Mr. Revillame from the network . His attitude is a shame and injustice to Pres. Cory, the Filipino people and to the network she herself restored. Revillame claims that “his conscience was clear”. Wasn’t he aware of what was going on that day? Wasn’t he aware that a former President who restored freedom and democracy has died? Wasn’t he aware that the network Mr. Revillame is working with through his Wowowee was restored by the late President Aquino?

If your network is sincere in covering the funeral rites, procession and burial of Pres. Aquino and is truly KAPAMILYA, removing Mr. Revillame from ABS-CBN will give justice to Pres. Cory, the Filipino people and the network.

We hope starting Monday next week, we shall no longer see Mr. Revillame appearing in television. Anyways, he has already earned much from your network.

We hope for your immediate action regarding this matter.

(Sgd.)MR. DANTE M. RIVERO
A Concerned Filipino and ABS-CBN viewer.

The Silent Battle, the Quiestest War

August 1, 2009 Leave a comment

Cory AquinoWe have been hearing lately that Pres. Cory Aquino is under her own battle of the colon cancer. Under close watch and prayers of her family and the whole nation, everything that could happen is left under God’s power and guidance.

During her last SONA in 1991, Pres. Cory said this words which became a premonition:

“My responsibility as a Filipino, for the well-being of my country, goes beyond it to my grave…”

Another war has begun, the quietest war. The Filipino is truly worth dying for.

For all of us Filipinos believing in true democracy, we are behind you Pres. Cory: In your battles, in your war, in your fights against the great cancers this country once again is now facing: INDIFFERENCE, SELF-CENTERED GOVERNANCE, and the MESSING UP OF DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS inflicted by this present government manifested by its symtoms: CORRUPTION, DEPOSTISM, ELITISM, POVERTY AMONG MANY OF OUR PEOPLE, DECEPTION FROM THE CENTER.

Now you joined our Creator and your husband Ninoy in heaven, we know that you will still pray and even fight for us. We will continue your LABAN here. We will fight these social ills and cancers that are still plaguing and menacing our country and our people.

Farewell former Pres. Tita Cory Aquino, thank you for freedom and democracy. Thank you for your moral leadership that inspired many of us Filipinos. Thank you for this legacy. Truly the Filipino is worth dying for. We love you.

My Cory Impressions:Then and Now

July 27, 2009 Leave a comment

Honestly, I don’t know personally former President Cory Aquino. All what I remember about her started way back in 1986 when she ran against the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. The chants “Cory! Cory!” were so familiar way back then. And when I reached High School, all what I hear about her was some of the negative remarks like, “Lalo tayong naghirap nung si Cory na ang presidente. Buti pa nung panahon ni Marcos, mura ang bilihin, madami syang pinagawa, disiplinado mga tao”. Then came the natural disasters like the 1990 Luzon Earthquake, 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption and the worst man-made catastrophes during her presidency- the several coup attempts against her government and the 10-12 hour long Luzon-wide blackouts.

Those were my impressions of her when I was a teenager. All was negative. She is always being compared to her predecessor, that she is weak compared to Marcos.

I can help but reflect the Exodus experience of Israel. The Israelites were, like Filipinos under the dictatorship, longing for freedom from slavery. And then came Moses to deliver them. But their short memory and impatience led them to grumble and complain against him.

” It was better for us when we were in Egypt, than to starve to death here in the desert.” (Exodus 16:2)

But as years gone by, my thoughts of her were transformed. it was only after she relinquished peacefully her powers to her successor (former President Fidel Ramos) that I came to understand and realize what she,her husband Ninoy were fighting for all throughout the years–our freedom and our democracy that once again is being tarnished by the present GMA administration.

I remember, I had a chance to shake her hands and congratulated her during the Philippine Centennial celebrations in 1998 at the Quirino Granstand. I simply told her, “Madam Cory, proud po ako sa inyo” and she replied to me with a smile and a firm grip on my hand, with a sincere and simple “Salamat.”

From then on, somehow, I started to believe in her cause. Not much about governance and managing the state affairs, but how she lived her life: a life of integrity and character amidst crisis. There I came to know the real Cory, not just as a President but as a woman of faith and hope.

Nobody’s perfect as the saying goes. And she too has her own shortcomings. But what Cory is admirable of is her inner strength as a person. From Ninoy, to her children particularly Kris, whom many know also underwent her ups and downs and to all Filipinos, Cory as wife, mother and President stood firm on her principles and convictions.

If there is one legacy Pres. Cory will leave us, it is her inner will to continue with life, not driven by political power but by faith and love for God who is truly the beginning and end of all things.

Thank you Tita Cory for your inspiration. My prayers are always for your best. Hindi po kayo nag-iisa.

GMA’s 8th SONA, SANA HINDI TAYO MA OCHO-OCHO

July 27, 2009 Leave a comment

SONA 2001- THE PAYATAS BOYS AND THEIR BANKANG PAPEL AFLOATED FROM PAYATAS TO MALACANANG: Trabaho, edukasyon, sariling tahanan.

SONA 2003: A STRONG REPUBLIC: Ang kahirapan ay unti-unting nagagapi. Self-rated poverty again according to the survey, is at its lowest percentage of the population in the last 16 years.

SONA 2004: ANGELO DE LA CRUZ IS HOME.

SONA 2005: CHARTER CHANGE IS NEEDED. The mode of Charter change is the exclusive prerogative of Congress. But a constituent assembly may well give our people the quickest reforms.

SONA 2006 SUPER REGIONS OF THE PHILIPPINES.We will enhance the competitive advantage of the natural “super regions-“of-the-Philippines: the North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle, the Metro Luzon Urban Beltway, Central Philippines, Mindanao and the Cyber Corridor…. After three years, eleven months, and six days, I shall relinquish the Presidency, with much if not all that I have outlined completed. I do not want it said then that, in the end, I defeated my enemies. I would rather have it said that all of us, you and I, friends and foes today, achieved together a country progressive, prosperous and united.

By then poverty shall have been marginalized; and the marginalized raised to a robust middle class.We will have achieved the hallmarks of a modern society, where institutions are strong. By 2010, the Philippines should be well on its way to achieving that vision.

THE PRESIDENT IS AS STRONG AS SHE WANTS TO BE: I stand in the way of no one’s ambition. I only ask that no one stand in the way of the people’s well being and the nation’s progress.The time for facing off is over. The time is here for facing forward to a better future our people so desperately want and richly deserve. But make no mistake. I will not stand idly when anyone gets in the way of the national interest and tries to block the national vision. From where I sit, I can tell you, a President is always as strong as she wants to b

SONA 2008: GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS IS TO BLAME. Because tough choices were made, kumikilos na ang bayan sa wakas. We were retiring debts in great amounts, reducing the drag on our country’s development, habang namumuhunan sa taong bayan.

Biglang-bigla, nabaligtad ang ekonomiya ng mundo. Ang pagtalon ng presyo ng langis at pagkain ay nagbunsod ng pandaigdigan krisis, the worst since the Great Depression and the end of World War II.

SONA 2009: Antabayanan mamayang hapon
